Providence: Psychedelique Fracas in New England

SÉTE, FRANCE | Providence: Psychedelic Fracas in New England, or, Providence: Fracas psychédélique en Nouvelle-Angleterre. Explosive and saturated fine art show, curated by Jonas Delaborde, of artists from Providence, the small capital of the state of Rhode Island—being the birthplace of Horror writer, HP Lovecraft. He is the inspiration for the show.

Most of the works are recent, or commissioned at the invitation of the Museum.

Some figures, sometimes grotesques, always mutant, at the intersection of several fields of force, whether sound or colour .

The Artists are heirs, despite themselves, of the monstrous imaginations of fantastic writers Edgar Allan Poe and HP Lovecraft who have left their mark upon them.

Mat Brinkman, Melissa Brown, Brian Chippendale, Jessica Ciocci, Jim Drain, CF, Philippe Druillet, Leif Goldberg, Jungil Hong, Ben Jones, Marie Lorenz, Takeshi Murata & Billy Grant, Ara Peterson, Francine Spiegel & Judi Rosen.

All of them pioneer some form of underground activity, these artists are also musicians, writers, comics fanzines creators or publishers. The variety of forms they produce creates a buzzing network for the electric dynamics to pulse between the destructive and creative.

Musée International des Arts Modestes Celebrates 15 Years with Providence Show

Fifteen years on the look-out for creative and unclassifiable works that rebels against categorization. In this time MIAM has earned an international reputation and continues to question the boundaries of contemporary art.

The International Museum of Modest Arts was established in Sète in November 2000, with the support of Ministry of Culture and Communication, to house the modest art collections of Hervé Di Rosa and Bernard Belluc.

Since then, the MIAM presented the works of over 700 French and international artists of all generations, all origins, all practices.

MIAM exhibitions have often been at the forefront in revealing marginal or innovative art movements.

Admission 5.50€
